Did you know…
That the American Cancer Society estimates that women will die of the following cancers in 2008:
· Lung cancer 71,030
· Breast cancer 40,480
· Colon cancer 25,700
· Pancreatic cancer 16,790
· Lymphoma 10,020
What can I do to prevent from being a statistic? The American Cancer Society recommends early detection screening:
ü Yearly mammograms beginning at age 40
ü Self examinations as early as 20
ü Beginning at 50 women AND men should begin screening involving examinations related to colon and rectum cancers
ü Individuals with personal or family history of colorectal cancer or adenomas, inflammatory bowel disease, or high-risk genetic syndromes should continue to follow the most recent recommendation for individuals at increased or high risk.
How can I get involved? Easy come out on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center, with your “Care Enough to Wear Pink Campaign” t-shirt to show your support for women battling cancer in the San Marcos and surrounding areas. The day of festivities includes a pink fire truck, educational booths, and guest speakers. The cost of the shirts will be $10 dollars and proceeds raised from the sale of these t-shirts will go to the Komen Austin Foundation, with the proceeds returning to Hays, Williamson, and Caldwell counties helping persons with their fight against cancer.
